Monday Hot Yoga

Despite not falling in love with my gym's Monday hot yoga class last week, I decided to give it another shot today. A few of my friends were going, which always helps motivate me to make it to the gym. I also was in the mood for something more mellow and relaxing (it was a pretty hectic day at the office!), so a relatively easy yoga class seemed perfect!

Tank: Under Armour [similar]
Shorts: Asics [exact]
Sports bra: C9 [similar]

I clearly wasn't ready for that second photo, but it's the only one I had that showed everything from head to toe! Thank goodness I decided to wear shorts to class (I think it's the first time I've ever worn shorts to a yoga class!) because the room was sweltering! I've never really done hot yoga until now (although I've done plenty of the room temperature variety), so it's taking some getting used to. Fortunately, these shorts are nice and stretchy, so they moved well with my body. This tank top is so light and airy that it was also a great choice.

After yoga, my roommate Jason and I were neither one feeling much like cooking, so we swung by a taco place for dinner. I'm pretty sure I could have Mexican food for every meal and be happy about it! I'm also getting much better at making healthy choices (light on the cheese, please!) and watching my portion sizes when eating out.

Long Run on a Hot Day

I love Saturdays! This morning was exactly like I love my Saturday mornings to be. I had some cinnamon rolls leftover from some baking Whitney and I did the other day (I'll share the recipe soon!), so I had those and a fresh cup of coffee for a leisurely breakfast. After catching up on my Thursday evening TV shows (Grey's Anatomy and Scandal), it was time for a run. I opted to start slowly in hopes that I would save up some energy and go a bit further than I usually do.

I ended up pacing myself quite well! I went a little over 5 miles, and each mile's pace was within a few seconds of each other. The amazing weather today definitely helped keep me going!

Tank: Nike [similar]
Pants: C9 [exact]
Shoes: Newton Running [exact]
Sunglasses: Oakley [exact]

After wishing I'd worn a tank top on a few warm weekends, I finally actually did it. Thank goodness I did! There isn't much shade on my usual weekend route, and today, there wasn't much of a breeze, either. That added up to quite the warm run. I was all red and sweaty by the end!

Tomorrow, Crystal and I are running the Golden Gate Bridge...I haven't run it in awhile, so I'm looking forward to it!

How is everyone else's weekend going?

Friday Favorites (a day late...again!)

Another week, another delayed Friday Favorites. Sorry about that, guys! I usually try to put these together when I have slow evenings during the week, but the last two weeks have been quite busy.

1. NARS Blush in Deep Throat. I'm a huge fan of NARS products (I included their Velvet Matte lip pencil in a previous Friday Favorites), and I've been using their blush for years. The latest color I've tried is Deep Throat, which is a lovely, natural peach. I've gotten so many compliments on my rosy cheeks when I've been wearing this!

2. Truett Hurst Winery. A Friday Favorite for the 21+ crowd :) I love going up to Sonoma for wine tasting with my friends. Whenever I go, I make sure I stop at Truett Hurst. They have beautiful grounds (with a really nice creek area where you can enjoy a glass of wine), friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. I'm a member of their wine club and have loved every single thing they've included in my quarterly purchases. If you find yourself in Sonoma, check them out!

3. Cowgirl Creamery. Another local favorite! This cheesemaker is based in Point Reyes, just up the road from San Francisco. They have a store in the San Francisco Ferry Building where you can sample their cheeses...I visit it entirely too often. If you're a cheese fan like me, you won't be disappointed by anything here!

4. Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Eye Cream. As my thirties approach, I've been taking skincare much more seriously. I'm always trying out different eye creams to see what works, and this one has been a good, inexpensive option.

5. "Can't Deny My Love" by Brandon Flowers. This song has been on repeat for me all week! It's catchy but far from your typical pop hit. It's a great addition to my running playlist :)

Running Club is BACK!

After several weeks without a meeting of my office running club, we finally made it happen tonight! It was a small group of us (only four people), but it worked out. Whitney and I ran together, and the other two ran together since they are much, much faster than us. The weather was incredible! The sunshine, the slight breeze, the mild was really a perfect day for a run.

And what a run it was! Although neither Whitney nor I were really feeling a long run, we pushed a bit beyond our 5k loop and hit a little over 4 miles. We also ran a lot faster than we usually do. At the end, Whitney turned to me and said, "Man, you were cruising there!" And I turned back to her and said, "I thought you were the one flying!"

So, another good thing from running with can push yourselves to go a bit further without even realizing you're doing it :)

Shirt: Nike [exact]
Pants: C9 [exact]
Shoes: Newton Running [exact]
Headphones: Skullcandy [exact]

This was a fantastic outfit for today. I love these Nike V necks so much for their versatility. I was actually able to wear this to work all day then turn around and use it for my workout. Since I carry a relatively small backpack with me to the office, I'm always looking for clothing that can pull double duty and save some space in my bag.

What are your favorite multitasking workout items? I'm always on the lookout for new things!

Long, Hot Yoga

Mondays are always long, but I decided to wind down my day with some yoga. My climbing gym also happens to have yoga classes, but I hadn't attended any since joining. So, along with my friends Brent and Jason, I went to a very long, very hot foundations of yoga class. I also squeezed in a tiny bit of bouldering after mixing up the class's start time :)

It was unlike any yoga class I've ever taken! Most of the classes I've taken in the past have been vinyasa flow, but this class really focused on basics and form. It was really refreshing. I can see how useful it would be for beginner yogis — I wish I had a class like this when I was first starting yoga! I'll probably attend from time to time in the future, but I think vinyasa flow is a better fit for where I'm at right now.

Jacket: Lululemon [similar]
Pants: Yogasmoga [exact]
Yoga Mat: Gaiam [exact]

My roommate James was kind enough to snap this photo for me post-yoga. Not my finest look (holy primary colors!), but hey...I'd just gotten done with two hours of intense contortions in a hot room. I did have a tank top on underneath, which proved very useful. I've never purposely done hot yoga before and wasn't anticipating it this time (the schedule didn't mention the "hot" part), so I was thanking my lucky stars that I'd opted for layers! These pants are great for yoga, but they definitely show a lot of think twice before wearing them to a hot class.

Is everyone else's Monday off to a good start?

Bacon Mac & Cheese (with a gluten-free option!)

I'm a huge fan of macaroni and cheese. I've shared my attempts at making it healthy before. Today, though, I was craving some creamy, luxuriously cheesy mac and cheese. The spaghetti squash and almond milk version just wasn't gonna cut it. However, I had the little issue that I gave up gluten for Lent...

What's a girl to do?

Why, craft her own, sinfully delicious, gluten-free version, of course!

Bacon Mac & Cheese
(with gluten-free options!)

2 cups uncooked pasta (I used Trader Joe's gluten-free, brown rice pasta)
1 piece of bacon
1 T. unsalted butter
2 T. cornstarch or all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup mascarpone cheese or non-fat, plain Greek yogurt (I used Chobani)
2 cups of cheese (I used Trader Joe's Unexpected Cheddar and organic shredded cheddar)
Salt and pepper, as desired for taste

Cook bacon until crispy in a large saucepan. Keep enough bacon grease in the pan to coat the bottom. Set bacon aside to cool.

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain water and set aside.

In the saucepan with bacon grease, add butter. Once melted with the bacon grease, mix in flour or cornstarch until bubbly. Add milk and bring to a boil. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 7-10 minutes.

Remove the milk mixture from heat and immediately stir in cheese (and yogurt, if opting for that instead of mascarpone). Crumble up the cooled bacon and add to the mixture. Stir in cooked pasta. Add salt and pepper to taste.

When I made it, I used the gluten-free options, but there was no discernible difference from the gluten-containing versions I've made in the past. I can't say it's the prettiest of recipes...but man, did it taste amazing! It's quite possibly the best batch of mac & cheese I've ever made, and I've experimented with quite a few different recipes.

I highly recommend everyone try this out on their next splurge day :)

An Ambitious Run

Happy Saturday! It's been a beautiful day here in San Francisco, and I decided to celebrate with a long run. I haven't gone on a run by myself in awhile, so I figured I'd do a quick 5k loop on my own today.

One of my favorite things about running solo is adjusting the run based on how everything is clicking.

Today, for example, I started slow and sped up as the miles went along. When my running app informed me I had hit 3 miles, I still felt pretty good, so I decided to keep going. Overall, I ended up hitting 5 miles for the first time since my last half marathon training program!

Top: Nike [similar]
Pants: Under Armour [exact]
Shoes: Newton Running [exact]
Sunglasses: Sunski [exact]

It was hot today! Although it didn't seem particularly warm when I left my apartment, there was no breeze or shade along the water, so it got hot really quickly. I was wishing for a tank top pretty quickly! However, this outfit definitely held up to the challenge of warm weather. I was honestly a bit shocked to look down at my pants and see no sweat marks at all. So, there we go...I continue to sing the praises of these pants :)

How is everyone else spending their weekends?

Friday Favorites (a day late!)

My Friday got away from me, so forgive me for posting these a day late! I thought it was going to be a quiet evening at home, but one of my friends had an out of town guest who we ended up showing around. We tried a new bar and ended the evening with Mexican food...which is always a good night for me :)

1. John Freida Frizz-Ease Dream Curls. When I cut my hair off a few months ago, I knew I wanted to do the whole wavy bob thing. Unfortunately, the product my hairdresser recommended wasn't doing much to bring out the natural wave in my hair. So, on a desperate trip to Target, I picked this up. It's been my go-to for wavy hair since! It's easy to use, smells great and doesn't leave my hair feeling crispy or dry.

2. The Plant Cafe Organic. This is a local chain in San Francisco, and I've recently fallen in love with it. It's a bit on the pricey side for what they offer, but they cater to different diets (tons of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan items on the menu!) and use high quality ingredients. While I'm a fan of their sandwiches and salads, I've also heard their juices are good. I'll have to try them out soon.

3. Empire. My roommate Jason and I have been slowly watching this series on Hulu. I was intrigued by the amazing ratings it seems to pull in week after week and wanted to give it a shot. It's a great blend of drama and comedy, with characters that make you care about what happens to them. I'm about halfway through season 1 right now!

4. Udi's Gluten-Free Bread. I gave up gluten for Lent, so I've been avoiding bread over the last several weeks. However, I got a craving the other day and decided to give this bread a shot. It was delicious and tastes just like any gluten-containing bread you'd find at the grocery store! I highly recommend this one to anyone out there watching their gluten intake!

5. Nike Element Half Zip. I bought one of of these about a year ago at an outlet mall because I liked the color...but once I took it out on my first cold weather run, I was hooked. The fabric is super soft (think Lululemon's Rulu fabric without the fuzzy appearance) but not overly thick, meaning you can use it as a layer in very cold weather or solo when it's just a little chilly. It's perfect for the Bay Area and its cold mornings!

6. Philz Coffee. This is a Bay Area favorite, but I hadn't really tried it until last week. My company just moved offices, and a Philz truck sets up shop nearby. It constantly has a massive line, so I figured I needed to see what all the fuss was about. I tried it one day and immediately understood! The coffee is amazing, their selection of blends is unlike any I've seen at a coffee shop and their baristas are so happy. They'll be expanding outside of California soon, so give it a shot when it comes to your area!

What are your favorite things this week??

Bouldering V2s

It's been almost a week since I last went climbing! Fortunately, I had a whole group of friends who wanted to go bouldering tonight. My friend Crystal (who frequently runs with me) decided to give it a shot for the first time, and then my usual climbing buddies Kim, Brent and Jason all joined in, as well. It was so much fun! It's always wonderful spending an evening doing something fun (and active!) with some of your favorite people.

Tank: Under Armour [exact]
Sports bra: GapFit [similar]
Pants: GapFit [similar]
Shoes: Evolv [exact]

Since my monthlong climbing gym trial membership with free rentals expired, I finally had to buy my own climbing gear. I opted for these Evolv climbing shoes, which are nice because they don't require tons of lacing like the rental shoes I had been wearing! I also coordinated the color of the shoes with my new harness (I'll share that next time I go top roping).

Tonight was my first time seriously tackling V2s. I've been gradually increasing the difficulty level of my bouldering problems since starting to climb, but I felt like this was the first time V1s felt easy for me. Crystal was a natural — she was solving V1s before the end of the evening despite never having climbed before! Hopefully, she'll get hooked on climbing and start joining us more often.

How has everyone else's week been going? Any fun workouts with friends?

Accidents, Running & Wine

There are Mondays, and then there are exceptionally Monday-like Mondays. Today was one of those days. I was coming off of a lovely weekend in San Luis Obispo with some family, so it was already tough enough to head back to the office. However, on top of that, I was returning to a day packed full of meetings. Because I have a car, I had offered to drive my coworkers for our various offsite meetings today.

So, I made it to my first meeting of the morning with no hassle. I was in a downright happy mood when I was making my way from the first meeting back to the office...until the last intersection before I was about to park! A taxi unfortunately missed the very clearly marked turn lane signs and nailed my car. Fortunately, I came out of the accident completely unscathed — and that's the important part! However, it didn't exactly put me in the best of moods for the rest of the day.

Whitney ended up coming home with me and, to shake off all of my post-car accident adrenaline, we went for a run.

Shirt: Nike [similar]
Shorts: Lululemon [similar]
Shoes: Newton Running [exact]

I have to say...going for a run was a great decision! At the end, I just felt totally back to normal and like I'd been able to wash away all of the stress associated with the day. I'm sure the stress will be right back tomorrow as I deal with insurance companies and all that joyful stuff, but for now, I'm feeling nice and relaxed. After our run, Whitney and I had a nice, healthy dinner of chicken and veggie stir fry and cracked open a bottle of my good wine.

All things considered, I felt like the fact that I am not hurt was worth toasting to! I'm super grateful for all my coworkers...everyone was genuinely concerned and wanted to make sure I was okay after everything. Going to the office is so much nicer when you know you're working with people who care about you and your well being.

Tonight, I'm going to bed grateful for my health, safety and friends! Cheers!

Running the San Francisco Sunset

We have been having some spectacular sunsets here in San Francisco and, conveniently, they happen to occur right around my usual weekday run time. Last Friday, my friend Whitney and I decided to go for a post-work run around the Presidio. I had to be up early on Saturday, so a run and dinner with a friend sounded like the perfect way to spend my evening.

Shirt: Nike [similar]
Pants: American Eagle [similar]
Shoes: Newton Running [exact]

I haven't worn this shirt in awhile, but it's one of my favorites. It's from 2012 Olympic Track & Field Trials, which was the first sports event I ever attended as a credentialed photographer. It's also a nice, tight fit, which I like for running. I prefer my running clothes either skintight or just slightly loose...anything too big just gets cumbersome. How does everyone else about running clothing fit?

After my run, the evening turned into dinner + margaritas (neither Whitney nor my roommate Jason had experienced my homemade margaritas before, so I insisted that we needed to change that...I'll post that recipe sometime soon!). It was low key, filled with conversation and included plenty of laughter. For me, that's the recipe for the perfect night :)

How was your weekend?

March 2015 Birchbox

It's the middle of the month, which means it time for my Birchbox to arrive! Unlike last month, I was completely in the dark as to what might be coming in March's box. I wasn't a huge fan of any of the sample choice options and wasn't blown away by the curated box they offered, so it was truly a surprise.

Every month of Birchbox has a theme. This month's was "Creativity." While that was certainly clear from the packaging (it was beautiful!), I wasn't feeling much in terms of creativity from the box's contents.

In this month's box...
amika Bombshell Blowout Spray
Cover FX BB Gel Mattifying Anti-Blemish Treatment
Harvey Prince Sincerely Perfume
Mirenesse Flossy Kiss - Cheeky Kiss Lip Crayon
Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo and Reconstructing Masque

This is definitely not my favorite Birchbox. My two least favorite items to receive are hair products and perfume...and those comprised 60% of my box! I do like the way Harvey Prince products smell typically, though, so I may wear this a few times. I've heard good things online about the blowout spray, but I don't typically like using much product in my hair. It walks a fine line between normal and oily, so it seems that virtually any product makes it cross over into oily territory. I'm totally thrown off by the anti-blemish treatment...I have normal skin and don't have acne/blemishes listed as a concern in my Birchbox profile, so this one is unlikely to get much use. The lip crayon looks like a good color, though, so I'm excited about that.

Oh, well...crossing my fingers for a better April Birchbox! It is my birthday month, after all :)

How was March for everyone else? What products did you get in your Birchbox?

Bouldering and Trying New Tanks

After going a week without a visit to the climbing gym, I decided it was time to change that! So, I joined up with a few of my friends (more and more of them are getting hooked on climbing) and we headed over. We split up based on who wanted to go bouldering and who wanted to top rope. I joined the bouldering group and off we went!

It's pretty fun seeing how quickly you start getting better at this sport. I'm already trying new routes that are a few steps above where I started. I did a V0 (the easiest bouldering difficulty level) as a confidence booster and solved it in no time at all. Time to try bigger and better things!

Tank: Lululemon [exact]
Pants: Under Armour [exact]

I am absolutely in love with this tank top. I haven't paid full price for something from Lululemon in quite awhile (I typically wait for markdowns because I don't think their products are high enough quality for the price), but after trying this on a few times, I knew I had to have it! It's comfortable and looks cute (albeit a bit revealing for a workout tank). I actually wore it to work with a jacket and skirt the other day, and it worked quite well as a multitasking piece. Another interesting feature is that the armpit area is cut a bit low, which means no issues with armpit fat. All in all, it's a very flattering top provided you're okay with showing a bit of cleavage.

Any fun plans for the weekend?

Working From Home + Running

This week, my company is moving offices. Because of that, all of us had to work from home for two days. My friend Whitney and I took advantage of the fact that we didn't have to commute and went running together right after work ended for the day. The combination of an earlier start and daylight savings time meant we were able to get some sunshine but still enjoy a full run. It was great!

Shirt: Nike [similar]
Pants: Under Armour [exact]
Shoes: Newton Running [exact]
Sunglasses: Free [similar]

I realize that most runners don't exactly make the most attractive of faces while running, but mine are in rare form today! I'm going to blame it on the fact that this particular run was much faster than my usual ones, and these photos were taken at the end when I was dying from it.

One of my favorite things about running with other people is the fact that they can push you a bit further. Today, for example, Whitney was running significantly faster than me at the beginning of the run, which meant I had to work a bit harder than usual (particularly on a tough hill). I tend to hit my stride closer to mile 2 or 3, though, so our roles were reversed at the end. I was leading the way. With that back and forth, we were able to knock out the 4-mile loop much faster than I typically do it!

So, even though I definitely treasure my solo runs, it's always good to mix things up. Do you guys prefer running solo or with others?

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday the 13th! It's a beautiful, sunny day here in San Francisco, so I'm feeling anything but superstitious about today!

1. Lululemon Mesh with Me Tank. I've heard a lot of mixed feelings about this tank top online. However, I'm loving it! The built in bra is supportive enough for both climbing and running (I tested it out yesterday...will be posting about it soon!). It is a bit on the revealing side for a workout shirt (major cleavage alert with the mesh area in the front), but that doesn't bother me. Perhaps my favorite thing about this tank, though, is that the armpit area is cut a bit lower than usual, which means no awkward looking armpit fat. It's very flattering!

2. Benefit Brow Bar. As a natural blonde, I've never paid a whole lot of attention to my brows. They've always been practically invisible! But I recently decided to give my brows some TLC with a visit to Benefit. They tinted them a bit darker and groomed them. While I'm never going to be someone who spends a ton of time on my brows, I do appreciate the fact that they're now visible :)

3. Chobani Almond Coco Loco Flip. This is my latest breakfast obsession! It tastes soooo delicious. The combination of coconut yogurt, almonds and dark chocolate is simply heavenly. It packs a great punch of protein, which is great for keeping me from snacking post-breakfast.

4. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The latest from Tina Fey definitely does not disappoint. It manages to stay endearing and entertaining without crossing over to cliche, campy territory. I'm an Indiana native, too, so I appreciate all the little playful jabs it takes at my home state.

5. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil. I rotate back and forth between a few different eyeliners, but this has become one of my go-tos. I use the color Stag (a dark brown), which opened my eyes to the world of brown eyeliner. I'd previously sworn by black, but this particular shade of brown just really works with my complexion. It's just the right amount of drama without being too overpowering for an everyday look.

6. GoFit Go Roller. Foam rolling is one of my life savers when it comes to running. I seem to be prone to injuries, but foam rolling has helped a lot. This particular roller is small and designed for travel. I like it, though, because it's easy to tuck away in my closet without taking up a bunch of space. The bright red color doesn't hurt, either :)

Workout Clothes Styled

I've mentioned several times on here that one thing I value in workout clothing is the ability to mix it into my regular wardrobe. So, I've decided to start showcasing some of my regular outfits where I've done just that. A few disclaimers before I start into that, though...

I like clothes and putting together somewhat coordinated outfits, but I'm not going for a high fashion look. Typically, my number one requirement for my outfit is that it is comfortable. You will definitely not see me sporting five-inch heels on here!

My workplace has a very casual dress code. Some of these outfits won't be appropriate for your standard, business casual office. I live in San Francisco, and we tend to be very lax about what is and is not okay to wear to work!

Shirt: Uniqlo [similar]
Pants: Yogasmoga [exact]
Boots: UrbanOG [similar]

In hindsight looking at these photos, I'm not in love with my cami sticking out from underneath my flannel, but I do like this shirt with these leggings. Because they're so opaque and made from thick material, they can be worn pretty similarly to colored jeans. I typically wear them with boots just because they're cropped and boots conceal that :) These flannels from Uniqlo are also fantastic...they're long, comfortable and warm. With San Francisco's permanent, fall-like weather, they're kind of perfect.

More styled #WOOTDs to come...let me know in the comments if there are any particular items from previous posts that you want to see styled!

Mondays with Mario at Boot Camp

Boot camp with Mario is such a great way to start off the week! It's so nice knowing that I have one serious workout in the books by Monday evening. I'm also not a fan of weightlifting, so it's a good alternative for building some muscle. Every week, I feel like I'm getting it must be working!

Tank: Under Armour [exact]
Pants: Yogasmoga [exact]
Shoes: Nike [similar]

This is one of my favorite workout outfits that I've put together in awhile. It's very simple but flattering. It's also very functional...this tank top has a vent in the back that is great for sweaty, indoor workouts like bootcamp. These shoes, on the other hand, weren't the greatest. They tend to slip around my foot a lot (I think the newer ones are a bit tighter on the foot), which isn't great when we're doing a bunch of repetitive exercises like mountain climbers!

How was everyone else's Monday? Are you getting adjusted to daylight savings time well?

Daylight Savings Run Time

Ahh...I love when daylight savings time begins! Sure, the whole losing an hour of sleep thing isn't ideal, but it means it'll still be light outside after work. When I don't have sunlight as an excuse, I typically end up running a lot more since I absolutely hate running on treadmills in gyms.

Today, I took advantage of some sunny springtime weather and got out for my first solo run in awhile. My calves were definitely a bit on the tight side, but I knocked out a 5k without stopping. Perhaps the delicious food waiting for me at the end was just the reward I needed to get myself moving!

Tank: Lululemon [similar]
Pants: GapFit [similar]
Shoes: Newton Running [exact]
Sunglasses: Oakley [exact]

It got super warm yesterday, so I figured a tank top was a safe bet today. I questioned that choice while I was doing my five-minute warmup walk! It was still a bit foggy and breezy. Fortunately, though, the fog burned off mid-run and this ended up being perfect by mile 2.

Post-run, I headed to Picnic at the Presidio, an awesome food truck gathering that they host weekly during spring, summer and fall here in San Francisco. I have a group of friends that frequents it, and this was our first outing this year. It was great to recharge after my run with friends and some of the best street food San Francisco has to offer. We hung out in the sunshine for a few hours until the fog came rolling back in...that's life in SF!

Friday Favorites

My favorites this week are a little skewed a bit courtesy of me spending most of the last week in bed sick...but I did manage to sneak one fun makeup item in there :)

1. Madewell Slub V-Neck Pocket Tee. I have fallen totally head over heels in love with this T-shirt! I've been hunting for that perfect V-neck for quite awhile, and I think this may be it. It's long (so perfect for wearing with leggings), comfortable, comes in a ton of colors and is opaque. And, to top it all off, it's less than $20 and a few colors are on sale right now. I've bought entirely too many of them over the last few weeks.

2. Naked Berry Veggie Juice. This was a lifesaver when I couldn't keep anything else down. It's tasty (really...not one of those "we promise it tastes good!" juices that ends up tasting like burnt kale) and delivers quite a strong punch in terms of nutrients.

3. Soap & Glory Hand Food. With all the climbing I've been doing, I've been developing calluses. To keep my hands soft, I turned to my favorite lotion. It smells amazing, absorbs quickly and doesn't leave your hands greasy (yes, you can twist a doorknob even if you just applied it a minute ago). It starts softening right away, too. I used to keep this on my desk and it was a perennial favorite around the office.

4. derma e Anti-Wrinkle Vitamin A Glycolic Scrub. I received this in my Birchbox last month and adore it. From the first use, it's left my skin soft but not feeling raw like a lot of scrubs do. It tightens everything up but leaves your skin with moisture intact. The anti-wrinkle part is an added bonus!

5. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl. I'll be 100% honest here — I gave this shade a shot because I read that Taylor Swift used this color. I'm guessing lots of people have done the same thing, because it took a few Sephora stops before I found it in stock! It's a great, true red hue that works really well with my skin tone. I also love the pencil aspect of it because it's super easy to put on precisely without red lipstick ending up in odd places. It lasts really well, too. On Tuesday, it made it through an entire day of work, a softball game and dinner without needing reapplication!

What were your favorite products out there this week?

A Quick Climb

Tonight, I squeezed in a quick climb after work! After my bout with the stomach flu last week (and, unfortunately, another day under the weather this week), I've been taking it pretty easy this week. However, I really wanted to do something tonight, so I asked Brent if he wanted to do a bit of bouldering. We only went for about an hour, but it was still a good time! My arms are a bit weak from time off and Mario's killer workout on Monday, but I think I'll be back to normal in no time.

Tank: Forever 21 [similar]
Sports bra: Lululemon [similar]
Pants: Yogasmoga [exact]

This was really quite the great bouldering outfit! The tank top is fitted, but not compressive, so it was comfortable but moved with me. My Yogasmoga pants never disappoint when I'm climbing (which is fortunate, since I'd given up on them for running). I'm going to be buying my own climbing shoes here in the next few weeks, so I'll soon have some more information to pass along on equipment. Until then, enjoy the lovely rental shoes :) Looking forward to having some shoes without the crazy laces these rentals have!

How is everyone else's week going so far? Any big plans for the weekend?

Back to Boot Camp

Last week was rough. On Thursday, I woke up at 4:30 in the morning and began a 36-hour struggle with the stomach flu. I'll spare you the details, but suffice to say it was not a fun couple of days! It's the most sick I've been in quite awhile. Since I couldn't stomach solid food for that entire time, I ended up taking the weekend off from working out, too, because I had absolutely zero energy.

But, now that the new week is here, I'm back to feeling most of the way normal! We had boot camp with Mario at work tonight and, after the intense session that left me sore for days last week, I took it easy today. He worked mainly upper body and core today, which was nice. It should help get my muscles in shape for climbing!

Forgive the slightly crazed look in my eyes there...that's what happens after a bout with stomach flu! Also, I hope you all appreciate my co-worker's expression there in the back of the photo :) she was trying to hammer out some work post-class! As much as I love this shirt, I can't say it was the best for boot camp. It's a bit loose, and I would've preferred something more fitted to move with me while we did all our push ups and weird various moves. I'll probably stick with something a bit more form-fitting next week!

Did anyone else start their week off with a good workout?
